Two persons in Isabela are facing charges of environmental destruction after reportedly quarrying along a white sand beach in barangay Baluno, Isabela City, Basilan.

SPO4 Arnold B. Fernandez, 905th Maritime Police Station Isabela Chief, identified the two suspects as Yong M. Sahidula and Nor Tulaja, residents of barangays Timpul and Cardon in Isabela City.

Fernandez said that their office received a call from barangay kagawads Farcon Sambani and Jundam Ismael that two persons were quarrying along the coastline.

Sahidula and Tulaja reportedly arrived in the area aboard two motorized pumpboats and began hauling white sand.

Responding maritime police personnel caught the two in the act of hauling sand inside sacks, some of which were already placed in their respective vessels.

Sahidula reportedly hauled 15 sacks of sand while Tulaja was able to gather 16 sacks.

Maritime troopers are preparing charges of environmental destruction against the two suspects.

Meanwhile, their boats were seized and are now docked at the Maritime office while the sacks of sand were deposited at the Maritime Station in Isabela City.  (Allen Abastillas)
