Police rescued 14 female victims of trafficking in persons along a police checkpoint in Curuan last Saturday night.

A police report showed that at around 9:30 p.m. policemen led by Insp. Miralam Baring were conducting a check point along the highway when they intercepted a Hi-Ace van driven by Adin Piang y Musa of Bulalo, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao  with 14 women onboard.

Based on investigation, the female passengers left Cotabato province and were coming to the city after being recruited to work as domestic helpers abroad.

Police said that the 14 women were recruited by Ramasia International Manpower Services Incorporated.

During investigation, the 14 women failed to present necessary papers that prompted police to hold them and turn them over to the office of Supt. Cristine Tan in PRO’s  WCPC MFU for disposition. (Dan Toribio)
