The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) has marked its 50th Anniversary with a 21-gun salute and a program at the MNLF camp in Pasil, Sulu last Sunday.

The celebration also marked Bansang Moro Day for over 2,000 MNLF combatants who attended the celebration.

During the program, MNLF Chairman Yusop Jikiri reminded his comrades not to allow allegations perpetrated by some groups that their organization is supporting an Isis-inspired ideology.

“Let our people know that our objective is to establish peace and development for our people,”  Jikiri said.

Participants also offered a prayer for the departed MNLF fighters.

MNLF leaders described the event as historical, saying that the MNLF camp is the site of numerous battles with government troops.

The Moro National Liberation Front was established at the Camp Al-Mabuhok in 1968.

The site was also described as the first camp that thwarted government forces.

Three battalions from the government have launched attacks against this camp but have never overrun it, said Jikiri.

He said that this is also the camp where the first MNLF Chairmn Muhajir Malayam organized the MNLF and started the quest for freedom.  (Remus Ong)
