Plans are underway to widen Veterans Avenue, one of the  City’s major and busiest highways, during the next two years.

The project follows the rehabilitation of the Governor Camins road, another busy road.

First District Congressman Celso Lobregat said Veterans Avenue covering the stretch of road from Sta. Cruz Market towards the Zamboanga City Medical Center will be included in the road rehabilitation projects of the national government.

He said that the national government through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already appropriated the amount of P200 million for the said purpose.

Survey period is now ongoing to determine the number of existing structures and private lots which will be affected by the said project.

In the event this will be materialized, Lobregat said, it will ease up the bumper to bumper flow of traffic in this main road.

"Together with DPWH we are looking for concrete solutions to the traffic congestion problem of Zamboanga City not by words, but by deeds," Lobregat said.

The solon said that the increased budget appropriations of DPWH Regional Office for the this year has been increased to P2.1 billion. This amount doesnt include yet the budget and appropriations of the national government for the Z3R program intended for the damage caused by the 2013 Zamboanga Siege.-Dexter Yap
