Mayor Beng Climaco will lead the activities commemorating the Earth Hour 2018 observance in the City slated 8 P.M. today at the City Hall grounds.

Mayor Climaco will officially kick off the Earth Hour 2018 observance with simple ceremonies which will include the Habagat Earth Hour Night Ride, the Earth Hour 101 presentation by the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), and the Earth Hour countdown which will lead to an hour-long ‘switch off’ – turning off of non-essential lights such as streetlights, signage lights, and key monuments in the city.

Aside from the Night Ride and the lights off countdown, presentations and performances from individuals and groups will also be part of the program of activities.

The Earth Hour is an annual observance which seeks to bring attention to environmental conservation and climate change. Through Executive Order 356-2018, the City joins in the global movement as an act of support and commitment to the environment.

Climaco has urged all sectors and residents to be part of the observance. She also emphasized the importance of taking environmental awareness and conservation beyond Earth Hour, and for residents to find ways and means to take care of the environment at all times. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
