More than 3,000 vehicles figured in vehicular accidents in the year 2017, based on police records.
The same records show that a total of 49 persons lost their lives to vehicular mishaps last year.
Supt. Ariel T. Huesca, Jr, Zamboanga City Police Office Operations Division chief, said that  a total of 1,682 four-wheeled vehicles figured in vehicular accidents.  Thirteen persons were killed while 572 victims were injured while riding this type of vehicle.
A total of 1,145 motorcycles were also reported to have been involved in vehicular mishaps that same year.  Twenty-nine motorcycle riders were killed while 857 persons were injured.
The trend for the first quarter of this year, however, reflects  a different trend.
From January to March, the highest number of accidents involved single motorcycles with 62 vehicular mishaps.
Two persons were killed while 24 were injured.
Four-wheeled vehicles are not far behind with 54 units involved in mishaps, one person killed and seven injured.  (Allen Abastillas)
