The Philippine Health Insurance (Philhealth) regional office-9 is urging hospitals in the region to offer the Z package, a program catering to children with developmental disability.

Philip E. Cataylo, Philhealth Clerk 3, said that the package can now be availed of by hospitals but the latter should first seek accreditation from Philhealth.

The program is currently not available in Zamboanga City because no hospitals have sought accreditation from Philhealth, Cataylo said.

Interested hospital officials must submit a letter of Intent to Philhealth. To be accredited, the hospital must have a Physiatrist, a Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician or Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician, a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist.

Hospitals in Manila and Davao have already applied for accreditation, according to Cataylo.

Children with developmental disabilities, aged 0 to 17 years old can avail of the program.

Children who have the following conditions may seek treatment from accredited hospitals:  Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Cerebral Palsy and Global Developmental Delay.

The program offers assessment by a medical specialist, rehabilitation and therapy.

Cataylo is urging hospitals to avail of the package since there are children in the region who have developmental disabilities. (RGAAGo)
