The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) is embarking on a P33.9-million program to connect government agencies and offices in Zamboanga City.

Juanito Calingacion Jr., GovNet focal person, said that 33 kilometers of fiber optic  lines will be used to connect eighty-eight (88) national and local government agencies and offices.

The network includes 71 national government agencies, 5 schools, 2 hospitals, 10 offices of the local government unit.

Completion rate is currently at 20 percent.

Three companies in Manila have been tasked to lay down the cables to connect the offices.

Calingacion said that they are targeting to complete the project by August this year.

Upon completion, each agency will receive 20 mbps which will serve as a dedicated line for its users.

The office is envisioning a digitally empowered and integrated government that provides responsive and transparent online citizen-centered services for a globally competitive Filipino nation, according to a DICT statement.  (RGAAGo)
