More than 200 new trolley carts for use of airline passengers are now being readied for the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA.)

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has reportedly allocated a P39.9-million budget for the purchase of the trolleys.

The budget also includes the repair and rehabilitation of some push carts and replacement of two conveyors at the airport arrival area of ZIA.

First District Congressman Celso Lobregat made the announcement based on his conversation with Department of Transportation and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) officials in Manila.

Lobregat said that he is pushing for the implementation of the projects to improve the local airport, considered as the entry point and a showcase to the city.

Lobregat also thanked DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade for the approval of the P221-million budget intended for upgrading the dilapidated runway strip and the rehabilitation of the terminal building.

"Gracias con Presidente Duterte y Secretary Art Tugade cay todo kita queda mas alegre si embuenamente ta man operate el de aton aeropuerto local," Lobregat said.

Lobregat explained that although the process for the airport transfer is ongoing, the present airport should still undergo repair and rehabilitation because it caters to hundreds of passengers.  (Dexter Yap)
