The Bureau of Customs head office has relieved Zamboanga City District Collector Atty. Jesus Balmores for failing to achieve the collection target for the first quarter of the year.

Atty. Lyceo Martinez is expected to assume as new Zamboanga District Collector effective today.

Zamboanga District Collection Office Operations Officer Darwisa Schuck said that the office failed to meet its collection target amounting to approximately P60-million for the first quarter of this year.

Schuck attributed the failure to meet the target to less importation of goods such as noodles, LPG gas, cement, palm oil and other goods coming from Malaysia.

Schuck also said that sardine factories in the city have started to ship their raw materials directly to Manila instead of Zamboanga City.

There was also reportedly no importation of rice from countries such as Thailand and Vietnam and zero importation of motorcycles from Malaysia during the first quarter of the year.

Balmores and another BOC-Zamboanga official, Hja. Luzviminda Ali were re-assigned to the BOC Central Office in Manila.  (Allen Abastillas)
