A policeman and three of his cohorts were arrested after they were tagged behind the killing of a police “asset” in Baliwasan before dawn last Sunday.

Police identified the suspects as  PO2 Perry Glen Mani Climaco, a resident of Baliwasan and assigned at Ipil Maritime Police in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay; Kirt Anthony Alvarez of Boalan, Reymark Ponce of Sinunuc and Neil Aldrin Aguilar of Luyahan, Pasonanca.

Among the four of them, Climaco was identified by the other three suspects as the gunman who shot and killed Joselito Gonzaga Manolong, 34, married, a police asset and a resident of Atis Drive, Baliwasan.

Manolong was found bloodied after being shot along Baliwasan last Sunday night.

An eyewitness told police that one of the suspects, identified as Alvarez, was seen with Manolong prior to the murder.

Police then launched manhunt operations which led to the arrest of Alvarez in his residence.

Police then proceeded to arrest two more suspects, Ponce and Aguilar, after Alvarez implicated them in the crime.

Continued manhunt operations also led to the arrest of Climaco, the gunman, in Ipil municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay.

During interrogation, it was learned that the victim and the suspects were friends.

Police, however, are still looking at a drug-related angle.

The suspects were detained at the police station pending the filing of charges in court .  (Dan Toribio)
