Fire Prevention Month culminated in a gift giving ceremony with no less than President Rodrigo Duterte handing over an emergency ambulance vehicle to the Zamboanga City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The vehicle, a donation from the Japanese government, was reportedly turned over during ceremonies presided in by President Rodrigo Duterte in Davao City last March 24.

“For this I am very thankful to President Duterte and the Japanese government for their generosity.  It will truly help and augment the firefighting and rescue capability of the Bureau of Fire in the city,” said Zamboanga City Fire Marshall F/Supt. Jhufel Brananola.

Brananola also expressed his appreciation to the local government unit and all other line agencies, the business sector and the community in their advocacy towards a fire-safe and a fire-free nation.

He said that this year’s observance of Fire Prevention Month had been a success due to a decrease in the number of fire incidents  in Zamboanga City and the entire Zamboanga Peninsula compared to the previous year.

“Thanks to the effort of our valiant firefighters and the community.  Without your active support and cooperation we will not achieve our goal and mission to minimize if not eradicate the occurrence of destructive fires,” Brananola said.

Among the activities during the month-long observance of Fire Prevention Month are the following:  National Fire Olympics, Mr. and Miss National Fire Olympics, and Battle of the Band.

Brananola urged the provincial, district, city and municipal fire marshals who have shown their gallantry in the performance of their duties and responsibilities to continue their work as good firefighters.

Brananola also cited the help extended by members of the media in supporting the BFP in their yearly activity.  (Bhong Simbajon/ RMN News)
