The Federation of Land Transportation Association of Zamboanga City (FELTRANZ) is asking for a P1 increase in jeepney minimum fare due to a corresponding rise in the price of fuel and auto spare parts.

“It’s high time to increase el pasahe para na P9. Pwede ya man cope up maskin pakilaya el lavida del diatun maga drivers,” Eduardo Mingala, FELTRANZ President said in an interview.

According to Mingala, they are asking that jeepney fare be increased from the current P8.00 minimum fare to P9.00.

Mingala said that FELTRANZ counterparts in Manila are asking that jeepney fare be increased to P12.

Mingala said that the P8 jeepney fare was acceptable when fuel prices ranged from P24 to P27 per liter.

Now that fuel prices have been jacked up to P43 and the price of spare parts had also been increased five-fold, there should also be a corresponding increase in jeepney fare, Mingala reasoned.

Mingala also revealed that the take home pay of drivers went down from P500 to P300 per day after increase in fuel prices.

FELTRANZ has almost 3,000 member drivers of jeepneys and vans in Zamboanga City covering the east and west coasts. (R.G. A A. Go)
