A police official who had been assigned together with dozens of rogue cops in Basilan last year was shot dead in Aguada, Isabela City yesterday morning.

A police report identified the fatality as Sr. Insp. Artistedes Nas Marinda, a native of Quiapo, Manila and a member of Task Force Basilan.

Marinda was reportedly jogging in the Aguada area at around 5:35 a.m. when he was shot by a lone gunman.

Marinda sustained a bullet wound in the head and died on the spot.

Police recovered a spent shell of a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Isabela City Police Station personnel launched hot pursuit operations for the arrest of the suspect.

Marinda was among 50 rogue policemen who were transported to Basilan on February 2017 after allegedly committing administrative offenses.  (Dan Toribio)
