Outgoing AFP Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez has appealed to MNLF Central Committee Chair Yusop Jikiri and his officers to help the government and the military restore peace and development in Sulu.

For his part, Jikiri gave his assurance that the MNLF will do everything to help President Duterte in his peace and development efforts for the province.

The two met during a meeting at the Western Mindanao Command Headquarters.

He said that Galvez told them about Duterte’s sincere desire to bring peace and development in Sulu with the help of the MNLF, the local goverment units and civil society groups.

Jikiri also suggested some measures to lessen the series of atrocities such as kidnappings during his meeting with the new AFP Chief.

The MNLF continues to maintain the MNLF Anti Kidnapping Task Force, the mission of which is to monitor the whereabouts of kidnap victims in the province.

“Our forces are still there.  We know the terrain of Sulu,” Jikiiri assured.  (Ely Dumaboc)
