PDP-Laban member’s vehicle ambushed PDF Print E-mail

A man was killed while another was injured when armed men fired at a PDP-Laban member’s vehicle in barangay Barubuhan, Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur yesterday.

Police identified the fatality as Rolando Labad, 53-years old, a former militiaman and an employee of the Sominot local government.

Another victim, 44-year old Carlito Murcia sustained bullet wounds and was brought to the local hospital for treatment.

The victims were with two other companions:  54-year old Enrico Estrada and 58-year old Santiago Miñoza, who is planning to run for barangay captain under PDP- Laban.

PNP Sr. Insp. Juvic Aballe, Sominot Police Chief, said that the four victims were riding on a motorcycle in Purok 3 when armed men fired at the vehicle.

Labad sustained multiple gunshot wounds which caused his death.  Murcia sustained wounds on his right foot and was brought to a hospital.

Miñoza and Estrada were able to escape injury.

The assailants fled towards Barangay Waling-Waling, Sitio Puting Bato.

Police recovered 42 slugs and 2 bullets from an M-16 armalite rifle and two slugs from a .45 caliber pistol.

Police have conducted pursuit operations for the suspects’ arrest.

Aballe said that the incident may be politically-motivated.  (Ely Dumaboc)
