The Commission on Elections (Comelec) and military and police officials held its first conference relative to security for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this October.

Comelec District 1 Election Officer Atty. Stephen Roy Cañete said that their office is in the final stages of preparation and that matters relative to security will comprise fifty percent (50%) of the preparation for the upcoming elections.

There are no reported election hot spots in the City of Zamboanga.

There were concerns raised, however, on the need for more security personnel in Barangay Rio Hondo.  The matter will still be discussed by the Regional Joint Security Control Unit, Cañete said.

Incumbent candidates may be allowed two bodyguards but may still apply for an additional two security personnel.

Candidates for the Barangay Elections may also apply and  must submit their requirements to the Regional Joint Security Control Unit.

The list of voters has already been finalized.

There are 436,189 registered voters in the city of Zamboanga who will be voting during the barangay election in October.

There are 141,009 young voters who will participate in the Sangguniang Kabataan election.

The conference was attended by Comelec District 1 Election Officer Atty. Stephen Cañete, Zamboanga City Police Office Deputies for Administration and Operation Sr. Supt. Ruperto Salazar and Supt. Ariel  Huesca, Task Force Zamboanga 11th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt.  Col. Rolando Gomez.   (Remus Ong)
