A P360-million flood control project for the city’s central district is being fast tracked to solve perennial flooding in the city.

First District Congressman Celso Lobregat said that the 2018 General Appropriations Act of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) provides for two projects worth P360-million to serve as flood control.

“Since the pinpointed location in that flood prone area in central district is below sea level, we cannot let it remain that way forever because all the establishments and motorists who utilize such roads has suffered much due to flood, we must find a solution immediately,” said Lobregat.

Lobregat is currently doing the requisite representation and follow-up with the DPWH to fast track the flood control project.

The Master Plan for the flood mitigation is currently being prepared.

Plans will then be laid out for the purchase of a property at the end of Pilar Street to house a pumping station.

The plan and funding for the project’s implementation is included in the 2018 GAA.

Lobregat extended his gratitude to former DPWH Secretary Babes Singson and DPWH Secretary Mark Villar for including Zamboanga city in President Duterte’s Build,Build, Build program.  (Dexter Yap)
