Indonesian national Erens Fiter was floating aboard his makeshift cottage off the coast of Simunul Tawi- Tawi when he was rescued by a local fisherman last Monday.

A Western Mindanao Command report said that Fiter’s floating cottage was severed from its anchor last March 19 due to strong winds.

His cottage was cast away and was floating for days when a Tawi-Tawi based fisherman, Idris Elsan, saw him.

Fiter said that he tried to get help from passing seacraft but failed to get the attention of the latter.

The Indon national stayed at his rescuer’s house for a night before being brought to the Simunul Municipal Police Station the following day.

He underwent medical check-up and was thereafter brought to the Joint Task Force Tawi- Tawi (JTF Tawi- Tawi) headquarters.

“We coordinated with INTERPOL Tawi-Tawi and the Indonesian Border Crossing Station for the background check of Fiter, “ said JTF Tawi- Tawi Commander, Brigadier General Custodio Parcon.

“Indonesian BCS personnel initially vouched for the subject’s nationality but reserved the final confirmation when Indonesian authorities from Indonesia communicate their feedback,” Parcon added.

The Indonesian national is currently at the headquarters of JTF Tawi- Tawi awaiting disposition.  (Ely Dumaboc)
