An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at a housing project in barangay Sumagdang, Isabela city last Wednesday night.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, said that the IED was placed under a payloader owned by a land developer identified as Engr. Mike Solongan.

The area where the explosion occurred, reportedly owned by Hadji Haber Abing and Hadji Nur Jaratul, is currently being developed into a housing project by  private contractors.

There was no major damage reported on the payloader.

Post blast investigators however recovered IED parts such as a damaged cellular phone, an improvised electric blasting cap, a cooking pot which served as the container and a tin can.

The developers said that they did not receive any extortion letters since they started the project six years ago.

They admitted however putting landmarks in certain areas being inhabited by illegal dwellers whose houses are to be subjected for demolition.  (Ely Dumaboc)
