A grenade explosion damaged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) warehouse in Isabela City last Monday night.

A police report said that the explosion occurred at the DPWH warehouse located along Purok 4, Barangay Aguada at 7:30 p.m.

Post blast investigators were able to recover a safety lever and parts of an MK2 fragmentation grenade at the explosion site.

Investigation also disclosed that the grenade was hurled towards the roof of the warehouse by a still unidentified suspect.

There were no reported casualties but the warehouse was said to have incurred damages due to the explosion.

The incident is the latest in a series of explosions at government and private construction and engineering facilities in the province.

The other week, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at a housing project in barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City.  The explosive was placed under a payloader.

In February, an improvised explosive device exploded while another was found near the residence of two Public Works and Highways engineers in Isabela.

That same month,  two DPWH personnel were killed while two others were injured after an ambush by lawless elements along the highway in Barangay Baas, Lamitan City.

Police are looking at extortion as a possible motive.

DPWH District Engineer Soler Undug confirmed that lawless elements have been sending demands to their office. (Ely Dumaboc)
