Hundreds trooped to the Commission on Elections District office yesterday, two days before the deadline for filing of Certificates of Candidacy for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this May.

“Maybe they decided to file today (April 18) as they think that 18 is a lucky day, said Cañete.

More than 1,500 aspirants have filed their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) as of April 17.

The Commission on Election (Comelec) has announced that a total of 1,248 barangay aspirants and 391 SK aspirants have already filed their Certificate of Candidacy (COC).

The figure is expected to have increased yesterday based on the big number of aspirants seen crowding the Comelec office.

A total of 137 candidates filed for barangay captain, 49 have filed under district 1 while 88 have filed under district 2.

A total of 1,111 have filed for barangay kagawad, 415 of who filed under district 1 while 696 filed under district 2.

A total of 103 aspirants for Sangguniang Kabataan also filed their COC  with the Comelec office.

Of this number, 36 have filed under district 1 while 67 have filed under district 2.

The filing of COC for the barangay and SK elections started last April 14 and it is expected to end on April 20.

The elections are scheduled on May 14, 2018.

Meanwhile, Atty. Stephen Roy Cañete, District Election Officer 1, appealed to aspirants who flock to the Comelec office to file their COCs to exercise caution.

“Si anda na Comelec man file COC favor no man tulakan, pelyahan, sigi na pila, y sigi na reglamento para embuenamente el filing de COC,” Cañete appealed.  (RGAAGo)
