The City Council has approved an ordinance converting the Ayala and Vitali Vocational -Technical schools into 2 local city colleges, each to be known as the Colegio dela Ciudad de Zamboanga.

District 1 Councilor Elbert Atilano, author of the ordinance, said that a Technical Working Group will be working for the completion of the requirements needed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)  to start the operation of the two schools.

The CHED and/or Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) through their respective secretaries and chairpersons will exercise supervision and regulation over the city colleges.

The city government of Zamboanga will appropriate an initial funding of P50-million for the schools’ operation and maintenance.

The ordinance will provide the graduates of the two schools with a four-year college degree and the students will have the chance  to pursue higher paying careers that require advanced skills.  (Monch Follosco)
