Two killed in Dinas shootout PDF Print E-mail

Two members of a criminal group were killed while two others were arrested during a shootout between lawless elements and government forces in Sitio Balaisan, East Migpulao, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur last Friday morning.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Information Officer, identified the fatalities as Moamar Ansang Fermin, 36, and Suad Abang Esmael, 32.

Esmael and Fermin were two of the “Most Wanted” personalities in Zamboanga del Sur.

Two others were arrested and were identified as Hadad Giapal Nanding, 23, married, of Purok 5, Sitio Balaisan, Barangay East Migpulao and Mahadam Yunos Giapal, 28, of the same place.

A police report disclosed that military and police elements conducted a law enforcement operation which led to a  shootout at around 7:10 a.m.

Units responsible for neutralizing the suspects are personnel of the 902nd Mobile Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9, RSOG-Task Force Tugis, RID9, Zamboanga del Sur Mobile Force Company, 903rd Maritime and Dinas Municipal Police Station.

Police said that Fermin had a standing warrant of arrest for four counts of murder, and was also facing multiple attempted and frustrated murder charges.

Police recovered a Colt M16 rifle (with Serial Number 1489160), one long magazine, four spent shells, five 5.56 caliber ammunition and a Nokia Cellular phone from Fermin.

Meanwhile, police recovered a Carbine Rifle (bearing Serial Number 4330937), one long magazine, two short magazines, ammunition, and one Nokia cellular phone from Esmael.

Police also recovered from the two arrested suspects a .45 caliber pistol Armscor (bearing Serial Number 357165), one short magazine,  ammunition and one holster.

The two arrested suspects were detained pending the filing of charges in court.  (Dan Toribio)
