The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Regional Office- 9 has announced the expected use of new vehicle plate numbers by May this year.

Atty. Aminola Abaton, LTO 9 Regional Director,  said that the new plate numbers will start with letter J, the prefix for region 9. The letter J  will be followed by two other letters with four numbers.

The new plate numbers will receive by clients who have been waiting for their plates since July 2016 and those who have purchased new vehicles.

The new plates are  German made and  will be printed by LTO Manila.

The regional director admitted that there is still a backlog of 30,000 plate numbers in the region.

He expressed confidence that the LTO plant in Manila, which is capable of printing 30,000 plates a day, could eliminate waiting time for license plates.

Abaton said that they are planning towards having documents such as the OR, CR and license plates ready when cars come out from dealers.

The printing of plates for motorcycles is not expected to start yet because of a pending legislation proposing two plate numbers for this type of vehicle. (R.G. A A. Go)
