A 75-year-old man succumbed to injuries after being hit by a motorcycle driven by a policeman along RT Lim Boulevard last Sunday.

The policeman, however, was released after the victim’s family failed to file charges against him.

The fatality was identified as Modesto Salvador y Manuel, of Sta. Maria.

He was bumped by a motorcycle driven by PO1 Ben-Ridzfar Jikiri Galbon, 29, single of Stanvac, Calarian and assigned at the RMFB9.

A police report showed that Galbon was travelling along RT Lim Boulevard at around 6:30 a.m. when he bumped Salvador who was crossing the road at the time.

Salvador was taken to the hospital while Galbon also sustained injuries in the body and was later placed under police custody at Station 11.

Salvador was rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) and was later transferred to a private hospital in Putik where he expired.

Galbon was released from police custody after Salvador’s relatives failed to appear at the police station. – Dan Toribio
