Police Senior Superintendent Alan Molintas Nazarro formally assumed his new post as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Zamboanga City Police Office  (ZCPO) taking over the position from Senior Supt. Neri Vincent Ignacio who was transferred to CALABARZON yesterday per orders from the PNP General Headquarters.

Nazarro took his oath of office at the City Hall Conference Room, a situation contrary to the PNP tradition of holding the turn over ceremony at the Zamboanga City Police Office just meters away from City Hall.

This is the first time in recent years that the turnover ceremony was held in City Hall, outside the Zamboanga City Police Office.

The ceremony was witnessed by Police Regional Office-9 Regional Director Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar and commanders of police stations in the city.

Reports said that Nazarro was sworn in to his position just minutes after consultations with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Philippine National Police Headquarters in Camp Crame.

Beltran said that his command sought clearance from the Commission on Elections  in order not to violate the Omnibus Election Code.

“Actually, kinonsulta namin at humingi din kami ng clearance from COMELEC about Nazarro’s installation as OIC, pwede naman daw kaya ginawan na naming ng paraan kasi kailangan may pinuno ang ZCPO para walang vacuum, especially that Barangay and SK election is fast approaching,” Beltran told newsmen.

Beltran reasoned that it is extremely necessary to designate an officer to spearhead the command of the local police force, and it is just in an OIC capacity, and not designated by the general headquarters in Camp Crame.

General Beltran posed a strong challenge to Nazarro to carry on the job and continue the good practices of his predecessor.

The commander said that the directorate has chosen Nazarro as fitted for the job, because he is a Zamboangueño and based on his track record, he has done an exemplary job during his previous designations here in ZCPO.

For his part, Nazarro said that he is willing and able to accept the challenge as the new OIC of ZCPO, saying that he is not new to this designation, having been assigned in the said command for a period of almost twelve years and he knows the terrain in Zamboanga City. – Bhong Simbajon/RMN News
