The last remaining escapee of the Tetuan Police Station detention cell surrendered to authorities at around 8am yesterday.

Sulayman Sali, arrested for illegal drug possession, was turned over by his uncle, Dr. Ussal Amana upon disembarking from the MV Stephanie 2, a vessel which arrived from Basilan province yesterday morning.

Sali was reportedly hiding at Candiis, Mohammad Ajul Basilan prior to his surrender to authorities.

In an interivew with DXRZ-RMN yesterday morning, Sali said that the detainees scampered off in different directions after escaping from their detention cell last April 10.

He said that he passed by Sta. Catalina on his way to a local wharf where he boarded a vessel bound for Lamitan city.

The former fugitive then travelled to Candis, Mohammad Ajul Municipality where he hid for 20 days.

Sali however admitted still feeling incarcerated despite having been out of their detention cell because he could not go anywhere he wanted.

He thus decided to surrender after police offered the reward of P50,000 for his capture.

Sali was among sixteen detainees who bolted from the detention cell of Zamboanga Police Station 6 last April 10.

Fifteen of the sixteen detainees were recaptured by police a day after their escape.  (Dan Toribio)
