A man took his own life in Tigbao Municipality, Zamboanga del Sur last Wednesday after being confronted about the poor health of his family’s horse.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, identified the victim as 21-year-old Danny Boy Pilapil Pelayo, an operator of a rice mill in Barangay Nilo.

Prior to the incident, Pelayo went to the house of his brother-in-law, Jonilo Maano Perez, where they had a drinking session and had a discussion about family matters.

During the course of the discussion, Perez confronted Pelayo about the poor health of the family’s horse, which was entrusted to the latter.

Pelayo insisted on taking good care of the animal and cried upon leaving the house after being accosted by his brother-in-law.

Pelayo then proceeded to the house of his sister, Vicenta Quimbo, where he was found hanging from a tree the following day.

The victim was said to have been suffering from depression prior to the incident.  (Remus Ong)
