A total of 156 young men have benefited from the City Health Office’s (CHO) free circumcision program  held last  Thursday at the City Health office.

Dr. Dulce Amor Dagalea-Miravite, Officer-In-Charge of the City Health Office (CHO), said  that doctors from the CHO together with Ateneo De Zamboanga University School of Medicine personnel participated in the activity.

Aside from the free circumcision, free antibiotics were also given to the children to assure that their wounds will not get infected.

According to Miravite, circumcision is being done for males for hygienic purposes and so that they will have less chances of acquiring Urinary Tract Infection or UTI.

The City Health Officer is also discouraging the traditional way of circumcision as the place where the operation is being done is not hygienic.

She said that parents  can have their children circumcised during medical missions, at the hospitals, or by their physicians. This will ensure sterility of the area and the safety of the patient as those who will conduct the operation are medical practitioners.

“If posible mas bueno na health center o na hospital conduci el tuli.” Miravite said. (RGAAGo)
