Two policewomen who were abducted in Sulu province last Sunday were reportedly on vacation and not on official mission, according to a statement by the Police Regional Office-9.

The statement said that the two victims, identified as PO2 Benierose Alvarez and PO1 Dinah Gumahad, had just finished visiting Quezon Beach, a popular beach in Sulu, when they were abducted in Barangay Liang, Patikul.

The two lady cops, together with Jakosalem Blas and Faisal Ahidji Hajiri were travelling on board a tricycle when they were forcibly taken by more than ten armed men.

Investigation showed that the victims were on board a red tricycle which had just come from a military base in Barangay Buhanginan in Patikul Sulu and upon reaching Barangay Liang, were flagged down by the armed men.

PO2 Alvarez is assigned at the Engineering Service Division under the Regional Logistics Division while PO1 Gumahad is assigned at the Midsalip Municipal Police station and undergoing a 45-day Criminal Investigation Course at the Regional Special Training Unit 9.

“The Police Regional Office-9 is closely coordinating with the combined forces of Joint Task Force Sulu and Sulu PNP, the operating units’ tasked to conduct pursuit operation against the armed suspects, to safely recover the victims,” the statement said.  (Ely Dumaboc)
