The Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) has retained its drug-free status based on the outcome of a surprise inspection dubbed as “Oplan Linis Piitan” conducted early yesterday morning.

The inspection team was composed of personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

J/Chief Insp. Nathaniel Aljas, jail warden, said that lawmen started the inspection by waking up detainees before 6am yesterday, instructing them to go out of their detention cells and proceed to the basketball court.

A body search was conducted on all inmates and their respective belongings inspected.

PDEA and PCG personnel proceeded to inspect all detention cells including the female dormitories while bringing with them their K9 sniffing dogs.

The inspecting team recovered prohibited items such as nail cutters, belts, uncut toothbrushes and small knives.

No drugs nor explosive materials were recovered during the inspection.

Aljas said that the result of the inspection proved that BJMP personnel strictly implement rules and policies on bringing in of contraband items.  (Dan Toribio)
