An ex-convict from the San Ramon Penal Colony has been re-arrested and is now facing multiple charges after engaging authorities in a shootout in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur last Friday.

Chief  Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, identified the suspect as Roger Placedo Ginsayaw, 37 years old, a trisikad driver and a resident of Barangay Madasigon, Molave.

Ginsayaw was also identified as an ex-detainee who is under parole probation from the San Ramon Penal Colony who participated in a robbery at Aurora municipality after being released from prison.

Galvez said that a policeman, identified as PO1 Roel Endrena saw two men chasing each other along Capistrano street in barangay Madasigon, Molave last Friday afternoon.

Endrena responded and identified himself as a police officer but was fired upon by one of the men, identified as Ginsayaw.

Endrena returned fire, hitting the suspect’s left leg but the latter managed to run and hid at the house of a certain Manuel Vismanoz.

Molave Police Station personnel responded to the area and conducted pursuit operations which resulted to Ginsayaw’s arrest.

Police confiscated from Ginsayaw’s possession a .38 revolver with six live ammunition.

The suspect was confined for medical treatment while an inquest case was filed for direct assault, violation of the Comelec gun ban and RA 10591 against the suspect.  (Remus Ong)
