Teresita “Tita” Corteza, Zamboanga Times former society columnist, passed away last Saturday at the age of 79.

Corteza was said to have died from a sudden heart attack in Zamboanga City, based on a text message sent by Tita’s son, Dante.

Prior to her attack, she was reportedly treated at the hospital for stomach ache and  returned to her house on the same day.

“We are still grieving as it was not expected,” Dante stated in his text message.

Corteza’s body is lying in state at Chapel A of La Merced Funeral Homes.  Her interment will be announced at a later date.

Corteza was known as the former columnist of Social Whirl at the Daily Zamboanga Times.

As society columnist, she was well-known for her friendly and happy demeanor, traits which made her popular among Zamboanga residents.
