A municipal councilor escaped death from a daring gun attack by unidentified suspects in what is suspected to be a drug-related incident in Dimatiling municipality, Zamboanga del Sur last Sunday.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, identified the councilor as Evrin Dres, 37 years old,  a member of the Peace and Order Committee on Anti Drugs in Dimatiling municipality.

Investigation disclosed that the victim was driving his pick-up vehicle from Sitio Tuka Purok 3 on his way to his rice mill at Barangay Kagawasan when the incident happened.

Armed men started to fire at his vehicle prompting the councilor to drive fast and escape his attackers.

The suspects meanwhile fled towards barangay Poblacion, Dimatiling after the incident.

Dimatiling Municipal Police personnel conducted pursuit operations against the suspects but failed to arrest them.

Police said that personal grudge might be the motive behind the gun attack.  (Remus Ong)
