2 killed as overloaded trike collides with bus Print

A woman and a 3-year-old boy were killed while ten others were injured when the overloaded tricycle they were riding on collided with a passenger bus in Purok 4, Sitio Suloan, Barangay Kimos, Siay Municipality in Zamboanga Sibugay last Monday.
Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, said that the mishap involved a passenger bus driven by 40-year-old Curuan resident Christopher Tugna De Leon and a tricycle driven by 41-year- old Fernando Malabas de Guzman.
The tricycle was travelling along the highway when de Guzman lost control of the steering bar causing the vehicle to encroach on the opposite lane just when the bus with 44 passengers was nearing.
The tricycle driver and his passengers were injured and brought to the hospital for medical treatment.
The injured passengers were identified as Lunzuran Zamboanga residents Jeneth Manzo Atilano, 39; Adrian Manzo Atilano, 12; Mica Manzo Atilano, 8; and Tresha Reyes Mendoza, 15; Jenelyn Reyes Mendoza, 35; Aila R. Suico, 3; Angel Mae R. Suico; Nicole Mendoza, 7; Janus Perarin, 7 of Siay Municipality.
Jovelyn Reyes Suico, 36, was killed on the spot while three-year-old Justin Perarin was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The bus passengers were all reported to be safe.
The bus driver surrendered to police while both vehicles were impounded at the Siay Municipal Police Station.  (Dan Toribio)
