Barangay chairman shot, bike seized by gunmen PDF Print E-mail

A barangay chairman of Sibuco town, Zamboanga del Norte was shot and critically wounded by one of two gunmen who later took his motorcycle along Nuñez Extension at dawn yesterday.

The victim was identified as Edgar Perla y Cedon, 41, married, barangay chairman of Taganak, Sibuco. He sustained a bullet wound in the chest and was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation disclosed that Perla was driving an XRM Honda motorcycle coming from Divisoria and going to Enriquez Sports Complex around 4 a.m.. At Nuñez Extension, he stopped the motorcycle to send a text message to a friend.

Police said that while Perla was holding his cell phone, two men appeared and seized the motorcycle at gunpoint. When Perla resisted, one of the two men shot him in the chest.

The two gunmen left the place bringing Perla’s motorcycle that sped away towards unknown direction.
Some passersby rushed Perla to the hospital.

Police learned that the motorcycle belongs to Hazel Therez Edding, wife of Sibuco Mayor Norbideri Edding.
City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed the Investigation Section under Sr. Insp. Joel Tuttuh is now investigating the case.
