Policemen are taking the place of teachers in the Electoral Board of Barangay Busay in Sacol Island after information surfaced that teachers have been under threat in the area.

Atty. Stephen Roy Cañete, District 1 Election Officer, confirmed that threats have been monitored against teachers who will serve in the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Teachers have also reportedly declined to serve in the island barangay, according to reports.

Under the Election Service Reform Act, it is no longer mandatory for public school teachers to serve as members of the Electoral Board.

There will be twelve (12) members of the electoral board with one supervisor and one support staff.

In this election, fourteen members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will serve as members of the Electoral Board in barangay Busay.

Busay has a total of 1,200 voters with one polling precinct, the Busay Elementary School with four clustered precincts.

Cañete said that the policemen have already been trained by the Comelec on Election rules and regulations.  (RGAAGo)
