The Sangguniang Panlungsod Presiding Officer, Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde adjourned yesterday’s regular session of the City Council due to a lack of quorum.

The adjournment, which came a day after the barangay elections, angered Majority Floorleader Cesar “Sang” Jimenez who described the incident as “very disgusting.”

“We are sending a very bad message to the people,” Jimenez said.

Before the session was adjourned, the council was able to hold a dialogue on the Coco levy funds and allow a privilege speech by Distric 2 Councilor BG Guingona on Paseo del Mar.

Initially, only 11 councilors and the vice mayor were present at the session. The councilors present were Councilors Jimenez, Josephine Pareja, Rodolfo Bayot, Elbert Atilano, Joselito Macrohon, Rodolfo Lim,  Rommel Agan, Al Jihan Rebollos Edding, Juan Climaco Elago, Jimmy B. Villaflores, and Benjamin Guingona IV.

After some time, two councilors , Jimmy Villaflores and Rudy Lim, left the hall while the session was ongoing.

Councilors who filed a leave and were absent during the session were Councilors Lilibeth N. Belloso, Miguel Alavar III, Jerry Perez, Tungkuh Hanapi, Marxander Jaime Cabato, and Myra Paz Abubakar.

Councilor Teodyver Arquiza did not file any leave.

Jimenez said that councilors should consider the importance of the session. "This is where the people expect us to be together to discuss matters involving the welfare of the city."

Jimenez, as a veteran of the City Council remembers that this is the first time that the session was adjourned due to a lack of quorum. (R.G. A A. Go)
