Two military personnel were injured after a landmine exploded on a bridge in Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte last Friday.

A military report said that the incident involved personnel from the 42nd Infantry Battalion.

The soldiers who were onboard a military vehicle were approaching Palalian Bridge, Kalawit when they saw three armed men laying a landmine on the bridge.

The troops disembarked from the vehicle and tried to run after the subjects.

The armed men, however, noticed the troops coming and detonated the landmine.

Another group of armed men who were located on higher ground also fired at the troops, prompting the latter to fire back.

The men were seen withdrawing towards Barangay New Salvacion and Barangay Palalian.

Another group of soldiers from the same battalion soon scoured the area and recovered materials used in making the explosives.
