At least 20 people aboard a bus of a water refilling station escaped death after the vehicle caught fire while negotiating the highway in Navalan, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur, last Sunday afternoon.

A police report disclosed that while the bus was on its way to Davao City from Pagadian City it caught fire around 5 p.m..

The bus driver identified as Eddie Mitchao, 22, told the police that he had noticed thick smoke emanating from the bus rear which prompted him to stop and check what was was happening.

Moments later, flames burst prompting Mitchao to order all people aboard who were all employees of Aqua World Water Refilling Station, to alight the bus. The passengers were on their way to Davao City to attend a seminar.

The timely order made by Mitchao saved the lives of the 20 employees as the flames consumed the entire  bus.

Firemen rushed to the scene but were late because the vehicle was already totally burnt.

Initial investigation showed that the fire was sparked by an electrical faulty wirings.

The employees commended the bus driver for his immediate reaction to save them.
