A notorious assassin operating in Zamboanga del Norte province was killed during a shootout with Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 personnel  in Sibutad Municipality, Zamboanga del Norte on Sunday.

A Police Regional Office-9 report identified the suspect as Jerry Delmonte Palma, 45 years old, and a resident of Barangay New LebangonPolanco, Zamboanga del Norte.

The report said that Palma was first spotted in Sipaloc, Sibutad at around 10 p.m. last Sunday.

An hour later, police set up a checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion to intercept the suspect who was spotted riding a motorcycle.

At 11:35 p.m., the suspect’s motorcycle arrived in the area.

Police tried to approach the vehicle, but the driver made a u-turn and fired two shots toward the lawmen.

Police fired back, hitting the suspect.

Police later recovered a .38 caliber pistol, ammunition, cartridge cases, a cellular phone and CIDG identification cards identifying the suspect as a CIDG confidential agent, and personal effects. (Remus Ong)
