A commander of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and a cousin of a local official were killed while ten others were wounded when the groups of two warring politicians clashed in Barangay Bualo Lipid, Maimbung, Sulu last Friday.

Joint Task Force Sulu commander Brig. Gen. CirilitoSobejana said that the firefight between the group of Maimbung Vice-Mayor Mudjasan Pando and the group of  Imal Matarol, brother of Maimbung Councilor Abubakar Tan, occurred at Barangay Bualo Lipid, Maimbung, Sulu at 7 p.m.

The fatalities were identified as Maming Mudjasan, brother of Vice Mayor Pando and an MNLF commander of BualoLIpid, and Jubilyn Saddawani, a cousin of Pando.

Three MNLF Misuari faction members and seven other civiians were wounded during the exchange of fire between the two warring forces.

The wounded MNLF members were identified as Makrasil, Abdul Nasser Sansawi and Ansal Jindani while the seven civilians were identified as  DannySahaman, Dasma Asaral, Attih Jainulla, Masbol Jainulla, Darsi Guabasi, Dismar Sakib and  Fatima  Elmi.

They were rushed by police and military authorities to the Sulu Integrated Provincial Health Office located in the capital town of Jolo for medication.

Sobejana said that  several  residents started to  evacuate and sought shelter at the covered court of an elementary school located at  Barangay Matatal, Maimbung, Sulu when the conflict started.

Sobejana added that law enforcement operations were immediately launched on Friday night  by JTF-Sulu  to ease the situation and bring back normalcy to the  area.

JTF-Sulu proceeded to the scene of the incident to ease the tension in the area and  advise the people to stay in their respective residences and remain calm.

According to Sobejana,  he deployed enough number of soldiers  in the village  and  established a patrol base right at the center of the affected community.

Meanwhile, MNLF headquarters and their forces at  Barangay  Bualo Lipid were relocated to Barangay Kagay, Indanan, Sulu until the political differences  between Pando and Matarol are resolved. (Ely Dumaboc)
