30 policemen cited for Zambo Sur raid Print

Thirty (30) police officers who were responsible for the arrest of a former mayor, an ABC president and more than a dozen members of private armies and the confiscation of a gun cache in Zamboanga del Sur were awarded with the Medalya ng Kagalingan during the flag ceremony in Camp Romeo Abendan, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) headquarters last Monday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Information Officer,  said that PRO-9 Regional Director, Chief Supt. Billy Beltran and Chief Supt. Franklin Moises Mabanag pinned the medal to the police awardees.

Galvez identified the awardees as Supt. Cyrus Belarmino, Chief Insp. Samson Pascual, Sr. Insp. Mohammed Madzdie Asiz Mukaram, SPO4 Angelo Jimenez and SPO4 Jackor Dionga of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 9(CIDG9); Supt. Flint Depnag, Chief Insp. Jerry Alvarez, Sr. Insp. Jimmy Paningbatan, Sr. Insp. Allan Benedict Rosete, Sr. Insp. Mark Anthony Karanain, Sr. Insp. Nijam Salim, Insp. Al-Ridzki Hajal, Insp. Nicko Czar Magnaye, PO1 Edford Sampang and PO1 Jeffrey Tecson of the Regional Mobile Forces Battalion 9; PSI Allan Perpetua, SPO2 Romeo Yabo, SPO1 Aldasher Amil, PO2 Percival Bosque and PO2 Javer Amarad of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO-9); Supt. Benjamin De Peralta, Supt. Gilzen Manese, Chief Insp. Norbert Velonza, Chief Insp. Usman Edding and Sr. Insp. Ryan Awakat of Zamboanga Del Sur Police Provincial Office; Supt. Romil Avenido, Chief Insp. Marlon Mangan-ay, Sr. Insp. Miller Mamising, Sr. Insp. Jade Gamboa and Sr. Insp. Francis Jay Sayago of the 55th Special Action Battalion, Special Action Force.

The police officers were awarded with Medalya ng Kagalingan in recognition of their distinct accomplishment through the implementation of a series of search warrants against gun- for- hire personalities at Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur wherein a leader of the gun-for-hire group and 14 of his members, including a former mayor and a council representative were arrested in a law enforcement operation on May 19, 2018.

Recovered during the operation were 10 high-powered assorted firearms, seven .45 caliber pistols, three M16 rifles, and a .38 caliber revolver, three fragmentation grenades and assorted ammunition. (Dan Toribio)
