A long, hot weekend awaits Zamboanga residents.

This after the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperativen (Zamcelco) and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) issued separate advisories on impending power outages due to preventive maintenance activities on major power lines this coming Saturday and Sunday.

Feeders under Zamcelco will experience power outages from Saturday to Sunday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. depending on the scheduled power outage per feeder.

Zamcelco General Manager Engr. Eduardo Ancheta said that one of the objectives of the maintenance activities is for NGCP to address the fluctuation of electricity experienced by Zamboanga residents.

Affected Zamcelco feeders on May 26 include those under the Sangali and Putik sub-stations.  These are Tumaga, Mercedes, Tetuan, Arena Blanco, Guiwan, Northside, Presa, Fishing Port, Culianan and Curuan.

Feeders mostly located on the west coast will experience power outages on Sunday, May 27.

These are Pasonanca, San Roque, San Jose, Guardia Nacional, Calarian, Baliwasan , Rio Hondo, Nuñez, ACLEM, Labuan, Sta. Catalina, Veterans, Governor Alvarez, Recodo, Sinunuc, Talisayan and a dedicated feeder.

The NGCP has attributed the major power outage to the scheduled shutdown of the Agus 5-Aurora 138KV line during upgrading activities at the Aurora substation.

The advisory said that the NGCP will implement manual load dropping to prevent an overloading of the remaining line, the Baloi-Aurora 138KV, during the scheduled shutdown.  The manual load dropping will result to a shutdown of other 69KV lines.

Zamcelco, for its part, will implement ride-on activities due to the NGCP shutdown of Agus 5-Aurora 138KV line.

On May 26, Zamcelco will implement the correction of three-phase line clearances at Putik, upgrade the V-phase to three-phase primary lines along Apolinario Loop, and do other corrective activities.

The following day, the electric cooperative will do right-of-way clearing along the 69-KV lines and 13.2 KV lines, repair A-frames of the 69- KV structure and do preventive maintenance services at the San Jose Gusu power sub-station.

Ancheta expressed optimism that the long power outage will result to less fluctuation of electricity.  (RGAAGo)
