The Zamboanga local government will not allocate funds for the repair of defective units under the Zamboanga Roadmap to Recovery and Rehabilitation (Z3R).

This was stressed by Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar saying that defects attributed to the contractor must be handled and paid for by the latter themselves.

“They failed to do their work from the very beginning.  They should be accountable and we should not spend any single centavo,”  Salazar pointed out.

The mayor’s statements were made during the Senate inquiry on government housing for calamity victims nationwide held at the Philippine Senate last Monday.

Salazar was invited to the inquiry due to the Z3R housing program for victims of the 2013 Zamboanga siege.

Senator Jv Ejercito, Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement, presided over the hearing which focused on the alleged use of substandard materials, slow implementation of the projects and lack of basic facilities for housing.

It was revealed that the government had already spent P64-billion for victims of calamities.  (RGAAGo)
