The Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative’s (ZAMCELCO) 16-megawatt generator set will be used to mitigate the effects of the massive power outage this weekend but not all areas will be benefit from the use of the multimillion peso equipment.

"Baka manda kame corre conel genset pero man supply Mercedes pa ariba," Zamcelco OIC general manager Engr. Edgardo F. Ancheta said in an interview.

Ancheta said that ZAMCELCO personnel will have to complete works on their Putik substation before the use of the gen set can benefit all areas.

At present, the gen set can supply power to the Mercedes feeder, Sangali, Putik, part of Tumaga, Culianan and the fishing port.

The power outage will, however, affect almost all areas in the city, including the city center.

All power consumers will have to pay 11 centavos per kilowatt hour which will be added to the generation rate.

The 16-megawatt generator set costs P350-million and was first used in 2016.

Last Wednesday, Zamcelco and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) warned power consumers of an impending power outage this weekend brought about by preventive maintenance on their equipment.

The NGCP has attributed the major power outage to the scheduled shutdown of the Agus 5-Aurora 138KV line during upgrading activities at the Aurora substation.

Zamcelco will conduct its own ride-on activities in addressing other power-related problems. (R.G. A A. Go)
