The city government of Zamboanga through the City Health Office (CHO) has commemorated the 35th International Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) candlelight memorial last Friday at Plaza Pershing.

The ceremony has the theme “"Reflecting on our past preparing for our Future"

The AIDS candlelight memorial is a solemn activity held to remember those who died from AIDS.

Several groups participated during the activity which also includes free HIV testing and entertainment.

One of the highlights of the occasion is the lighting of the giant HIV symbol ribbon.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco Salazar during the program also expressed support for the HIV program of the city.

We have to break barriers and stigma. We have to encourage people to get themselves tested, the Mayor said.

Know your status so we will be able to seek early treatment and diagnosis," Dr. Dulce Amor Dagalea-Miravite, OIC City Health Officer, said in an interview.  (R.G. Antonet Go)
