DOST-9 implements bioreactor projects on solid waste management Print

The Department of Science and Technology-9 (DOST-9) is currently funding bioreactor projects on solid waste management and recycling of waste materials and garbage in the region.

According to DOST regional director Martin A. Wee, the different projects are being implemented in the different provinces in the Region 9. The said projects in Zamboanga Sibugay have been established in the municipalities of Ipil, Imelda, Talusan, RT Lim and Tungawan.

In Zamboanga del Sur, the projects are being implemented in Lakewood, Dumalinao, Dumingag, Margosatubig, Molave,Bayog, Aurora, Tambulig and Pagadian City. In Zamboanga del Norte, the projects are in Siocon, Salug Valley, Labason and Dipolog City. While in Zamboanga City, the project is established in Barangay San Roque.

Wee explained that the main objective of the project is to recycle all garbage in every area in order to help in the preservation and protection of environment. “These projects are funded by DOST including the technology of the Bioreactor  and the digester  equipment to compose and recycle  waste materials or garbage into a composed or organic fertilizer.

He added that the amount of each project has reached to P800,000. -  P1 million. Each recipient will pay the funded project after the implementation and completion after 3 years with no interest.

The project is under DOST- Small Medium Enterprises Upgrading  Program ( SET-UP ),” Wee said

Wee also said that the project is in compliance with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)compliance on eco-waste management. Allen Abastillas
