Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday inaugurated the newly constructed two-storey six-classroom building worth P5.3 million at Lubigan National High School, east of this city.
Established in 2007, Lubigan NHS, which used to be an annex of Curuan National High School, has a population of 193 students and seven teachers headed by Abelardo Brutas Jr. as teacher-in charge.

From barely four classrooms, the school now has 10 classrooms, of which three will be used for library, computer room and a science laboratory, to the delight of the students and teachers including the General Parents Teachers Community Association with Abraham Lim as president.

In his message,  Mayor Lobregat said  the construction of the school building is one way of fulfilling the city government’s commitment to bring quality education to public elementary and secondary schools wherever they are in the city. “Despite the distance we construct school buildings here to bring progress to the east coast,” he said.

Lubigan NHS serves elementary graduates from the neighboring barangays of Dita, Panubigan and Cansilayan.
The mayor also announced the plan to construct a new barangay hall for Lubigan on the city government’s five-hectare property in the village, of which one hectare is devoted to education purposes. Funds for the said barangay hall have already been appropriated.

For his part, head teacher Brutas expressed his thanks and gratitude to Mayor Lobregat and other city officials for giving them the new building which, according to him, would greatly contribute to the students’ performance in the National Achievement Test.

Assisting the mayor in the inauguration of the new Lubigan NHS building were Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, councilors Nonong Guingona, Mike Alavar, VP Elago, Eddie Saavedra, Rudy Lim, Mayra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar together with City Schools Division Superintendent Dolores Alcantara.

Also present were Zamcelco Director Bong Atilano, City Engineer Luis Despalo, Executive Assistan Amilpasa “Caloy” Bandaying, Panubigan barangay chairman Ibrahim Sajili together with the barangay kagawad. — Vic Larato
